Remarkable Leadership Motivates the Best Effort in Others

There is a consistent stream being composed and taught about leadership nowadays. There are tips about leadership, courses about leadership, books, retreats, and continuing education– all focused on leadership. While all of this product is useful and can definitely improve one’s leadership knowledge, for the many part it avoids asking and addressing 2 concerns:

Why does much better leadership make a difference?, and
How does much better leadership achieve those differences?
All of us understand we’re “expected” to work to be much better leaders, but why does it matter, what effect does it have, and how does this all work?
Whenever I ask the “Why” concern, the answers that come to the mind of many individuals are something like “much better leadership creates more performance, greater earnings, lower turnover, greater job complete satisfaction, more commitment … you get the image. It is the answers to these 2 concerns which elevate us from just finding out and understanding much better leadership principles to pursuing a course of action which transforms us and our leadership abilities into something that really makes a difference.

I often recommend that my clients use their own experience as their finest example. Ask yourself when, during your career, you felt the most satisfied, many productive, proudest, most focused, and many committed. When we reflect back on those times, most of us would acknowledge that we didn’t feel like we did due to the fact that our “leader” had made an excellent decision, or that they had gone through “leadership training” (That term is in quotes due to the fact that leaders need to be established, not trained.), or that their leaders were effective, met their objectives, or had success in the past. No, typically we felt the way we did (satisfied, productive, happy, focused, and committed) due to the fact that of what we did– what we achieved. It all comes back to us and how we felt. It’s generally not about anything external– it comes down to our emotions. The secret to remarkable leadership, for that reason, lies within our ability to relate efficiently with individuals and their emotions.

Think of if everybody at work felt satisfied, productive, happy, focused, and committed! What would the consequences be? The consequences would be that everybody would produce greater performance, greater earnings, lower turnover, greater job complete satisfaction, and more commitment! The key then, to much better efficiency, is helping individuals feel more satisfied, productive, happy, focused, and committed. Notification the lack of any technical or intelligence issues? Notification that we’ve have not brought up the concept of “inspiring” individuals? We have not discussed inspiring individuals for one basic reason … individuals can’t be inspired! Trying to motivate somebody is analogous to physically attempting to get them to do something they do not wish to do. You won’t prosper. Since we desire to, what really works is when we’re self-motivated– when we do something. We enjoy our work when we’re inspired. We’re productive and happy of our efforts. We stay focused and committed to the task at hand. Simply put, we put forth out best effort.

Remarkable leadership, for that reason, is leadership that inspires individuals to offer their finest effort. Remarkable leadership is about relating to individuals in such a method as to inspire them to offer their finest effort– for themselves, their company, their community, their family, and/or their world.

How is this achieved? The foundation of remarkable leadership– of motivating others– comprises thee locations – Effective Leadership Philosophies (for yourself and your company), Effective Purpose, Mission and Values, and Effective People Skills.

* EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHIES for Woodbury Utah

Leading by Example – Whether we acknowledge it or not, we constantly lead by example. In our words (what we say or do not say), in our actions (what we do or do not do), and in our expressions (what we show or do not show). The things we say and do, during moments of “evident insignificance”, make an impression on those around us.

Servant Leader Philosophies – In our leadership workshops, I’ll ask participants who the most important individual is to a business. The answer, naturally, is the consumer. The concern that follows next is, “Who is the most important individual in the business to that consumer?”

Many people get that the individual most important to the consumer is the one they are available in contact with – the “frontline”. The concern that follows is the genuine secret to a much better understanding of servant leadership. This concern is, “What, then, is the job of the supervisor of those frontline individuals?” The job of the managers of the frontline folks is to make their job as simple and as effective as possible so that the consumer has the very best experience possible! If this leadership philosophy is embraced throughout an organization, it ends up with an organizational chart that appears like an inverted pyramid. It is an organization that acknowledges the value of the frontline and reflects the philosophy of service throughout.

* EFFECTIVE PURPOSE, MISSION AND VALUES

An organization which inspires the very best effort in its individuals will bring in the kind of staff members it needs and desires, and will maintain them. It has a Purpose, a Mission, and a set of Values that it lives by, it efficiently communicates them, and it determines its actions and decisions against them.
Purpose is the “WHY” of the equation. It defines why we do what we do. Each decision and policy ought to take the business
